Taken from acquisition proposal "L’un des deux prototypes d’ampoule fluorescente mis au point par un Canadien, Heinz Peper, pour remplacer les ampoules incandescentes moins efficaces que les fluorescentes. Il s’agissait aussi d’une solution pour remplacer l’éclairage fluorescent linéaire dans les résidences. M. Peper avait 23 ans à l’époque. Il aurait présenté son invention à la division d’éclairage de Canadian General Electric à Oakville mais ils la refusèrent. Ses connaissances le découragèrent en lui disant que même si les ampoules de ce type devenaient un jour peu coûteuses, personne ne voudrait acheter une ampoule avec ce design.

Taken from acquisition proposal "Fait par un souffleur de verre selon un dessin (sketch) de M. Peper. Le dessin n’a pas été remis par le souffleur de verre. Il n’existe aucun autre document relié à son invention. Il ne l’a pas fait breveter. Pour remplacer les ampoules incandescentes moins efficaces que les tubes fluorescents. Solution aussi pour remplacer l’éclairage fluorescent linéaire devenu populaire vers la fin des années 1940-début 1950 dans les espaces de travail mais aussi dans les résidences. Ce n’est qu’en 1976 que Edward Hammer de General Electric mis au point la méthode pour donner une forme spirale au tube fluorescent. Toutefois GE n’exploita pas immédiatement cette nouvelle invention car la machinerie pour les produire commercialement était trop dispendieuse. Les premières ampoules fluo compactes furent sur le marché vers 1985 mais étaient alors très chères et n’étaient pas parfaites. Des améliorations furent apportées au cours des années 1990 et le prix baissa. Elles devinrent un bon choix pour les consommateurs désireux d’économiser car elles durent plus longtemps et consomment moins d’énergie.".
