- First of 10,000 Dutch immigrants arrive - destined to Ontario farms, 500 Dutch immigrants arrived at Toronto today (April 15) on board a special CNR train direct from Halifax, where 1,300 Hollanders arrived Thursday on the liner "Volendam". At Toronto he new settlers boarded trains for various parts of the province under the guidance of government, Red Cross and CNR colonization and agricultural representatives. Photograph shows Red Cross worker Nancy Nellon pouring hot coffee for Theo van Helvert, while her sister Tiena, left, waits to be served. Largest group to arrive in this movement, Mr. And Mrs. Hendrik van Helvert and family will farm near Uxbridge, Ont. There are 12 children, ranging in age from eight to twenty.
