Technical: EXAMPLE OF ASTATIC GALVANOMETER, IN WHICH TWO NEEDLES OF EQUAL SIZE ARE MOUNTED RIGIDLY TOGETHER IN PARALLEL, BUT WITH POLES POINTING IN OPPOSITE DIRECTIONS. THIS ARRANGEMENTNEUTRALIZES EFFECT OF EARTH'S MAGNETIC FIELD (REFS. 2&3). THIS EXAMPLE HAS SUSPENSION STRING MOUNTED WITHIN BRASS TUBE FOR PROTECTION.
