THE GMD (GROUND METEOROLOGICAL DEVICE) SYSTEM SUCCEEDED THE MSC'S METOX RADIOTHEODOLITE & MANUAL DATA REDUCTION SYSTEM (REF.3). THE METOX ANTENNA WAS A SQUARE ARRAY OF 32 HALF-WAVE ELEMENTS. THE GMD WAS BEING REPLACED IN THE 1990'S BY A MULTIPOLE YAGI TYPE ANTENNA, WHICH REQUIRED NO TRACKING. - Area Notes
