- Markings
- "BRISTOW COIL/ MANUFACTURED BY/ McINTOSH BATTERY & OPTICAL CO./ CHICAGO" printed on plate fixed to control panel. Paper label fixed to underside of lid reads "INSTRUCTIONS/ The patient must be absolutely relaxed. Then treatment is painless. The large electrode, covered with cotton soaked in weak salt solution,/ is applied firmly under the extremity. The metal disc electrode is/ similarly covered and is grasped in the cleft between thumb and/ finger of left hand. With a disc electrode on the motor point the/ muscle is grasped with the left hand. The core is then inserted and/ withdrawn with the right hand./ The degree of contraction is appreciated by the left hand and regu-lated by the right./ It is better to underdo than overdue in treatment as fatigue injures/ wasted muscles./ This instrument is used for all purposes for which faradism is/ used and in addition a sinusoid effect is possible by gradually in-/ serting and withdrawing the core." "OFF", "ON", "1", "2" and "3" is stamped into contact points on control panel. "C L XXXXIII: crudely incised on case frame and lid frame between hinges. "INGRAM & BELL Limited/ Physicians and Hospital Supplies/ TORONTO" printed on plate fixed to case top. UHN catalogue no. "X969.87B" printed by hand in white ink on case back, below right hinge.
