This orienting press was used by the vendor to print display cards for Caplan’s Department Store and Giant Tiger stores. Cette presse à orienter étais utilisé par le donateur pour imprimer des pancartes pour le Grand Magasin Caplan ainsi que pour les magasins Tigre Géant.

Function

These wood types were used with a printing press to produce limited numbers of small size posters otherwise known as showcards in twelve different fonts. Ces caractères de bois étaient utilisés avec une presse à imprimer pour produire des pancartes ou des affiches publicitaires en douze fontes différentes.

Technical

The Line-O-Scribe printing press uses standard metal and wood display types. It represents a simple hand-operated showcard press. The press works on the travelling cylinder principle. The operator pulls a small-diameter impression cylinder over the back of a card which has been placed face down on the press’s inked types. The types are set up on a tray and locked in place with metal wedges. Cette presse à imprimer nommée le Line-O-Scribe utilise des caractères plomb et de bois. Il représente une presse à pancartes simple qui est opérable à la main. Il fonctionne sur le principe d'un cylindre voyageant. L'opérateur tire un cylindre de contre-pression a petit diamètre sous le dos d'une carte qui est placée face cachée sur les fonderies typographiques qui sont recouvertes avec de l'encre pour former une impression. Les caractères sont tenus en place avec des coins à refendre.

Missing

Some foundry and wood types are intentionally missing. This was because the goal was to only acquire fonts not already in our collection. Plusieurs caractères de fonderies (en métal) et de bois n'ont pas été collecté par intention. Ils ont été omis, car le but était de seulement d'acquérir des fontes manquant dans la collection.

Finish

A square wooden drawer that has two synthetic handles on its front. It also has a small grooved edge along either side to slide in and out of a rail. Inside the drawer are six rows of wood types with 164 pieces.They represent the uppercase letters of the alphabet along with numbers, symbols and stoppers. Un tiroir fait en bois qui a deux manches synthétiques circulaires. Il a aussi deux rainures (une de chaque côté) pour glisser au travers des rails de tablettes. À l'intérieur du tiroir il y a six rangées de caractères de bois avec 164 morceaux en bois qui représente les lettres de l'alphabet en lettres majuscule ainsi que des numéros, des symboles et des butoirs.
