ADAPTATION OF HYDROMETER TO MEASURE SPECIFIC GRAVITY OF MILK. QUEVENNE LACTOMETER FEATURES SCALE DIVIDED INTO 25 EQUAL PARTS, FROM 15 TO 40. IT IS GRADUATED TO GIVE CORRECT RESULTS AT 60-DEGREES F.: FOR THIS REASON A THERMOMETER SCALE APPEARS ABOVE THE LACTOMETER SCALE ON THIS INSTRUMENT. (REF. 2, PP. 213-14)

Scale for specific gravity of milk labelled "Lactometer [illegible] Quevenne.". Blue band marked "Skim Milk" and divided from 1/10 to 5/10: these divisions recorded to left of, and with reference to, quevenne scale divided (from bottom) 40 to 15 in single increments, and labelled at intervals of 5. To right is scale labelled "Pure Milk" divided from 1/10 to 5/10: this with reference to range 15- 29 of quevenne scale. / "LACTOMETER" handwritten on PT case.
