- Another story is told by Fred Sloman as he relates the background of the people who are having a birthday each day. Although it was nine years ago that Jean Macdougall visited Fred's school house on wheels she is not forgotten. Carefully noted was her birthday alongside her signature in the visitors book. Pupils make up the weekly birthday list on a felt board book. Miss Macdougall's father, Dr. J.B. Macdougall of Toronto, originated the idea of the school, a car which has moved along the CNR main line out of Capreol providing educational facilities for isolated school age children, since 1927. The car is provided by the Canadian National Railways for the Department of Education of the Province of Ontario. Fred and his kindly charming wife know every person along the line in the territory they cover and they are respected by all for the job they are doing in giving opportunity to isolated Canadians, both young and old.
