EXAMPLE OF PORTABLE UNIT OF THE 1930'S. ELECTROCARDIOGRAPH RECORDS THE ELECTRICAL PULSES THAT ORIGINATE IN CELLS WITHIN THE HEART. THESE CELLS INITIATE AN ELECTRIC CURRENT AT THE BEGINNING OF EACH HEARTBEAT, STIMULATING THE HEART MUSCLE TO CONTRACT. THE CURRENT SPREADS THROUGH ALL THE TISSUES OF THE BODY & OUT ONTO THE SURFACE OF THE SKIN. IT CAN BE DETECTED BY ELECTRODES ON THE SKIN WHICH ARE ATTACHED TO THE ELECTROCARDIOGRAPH & IS CHARTED ON A GRAPH OR ELECTROCARDIOGRAM (LEE, PG. 94) - Area Notes
