SAMPLE OF LIQUID IS PLACED IN UPPER TUBE SO AS TO FILL TUBE TO PREDETERMINED LEVEL, & ALLOWED TO RUN DOWN LOWER TUBE UNTIL DROP FALLS OFF. GIVEN NUMBER OF DROPS IS WEIGHED TO INDICATE SURFACE TENSION. - Technical

FIRST STALAGMOMETER APPEARS TO HAVE BEEN MADE IN 1863 BY WILHELMY BUT THEORY WAS NOT FULLY UNDERSTOOD.
