Function

For updating maps using aerial photographs. The aerial-photograph converter is an apparatus for observation with one eye, in that one views the image of the map situated on the table neath the prism, simultaneausly with a superimposed image of the aerial-photograph fixed to the photocarrier. Typical technology used before computerized mapping. The apparatus is fitted with various setting and manipulating controls which provide a means of rectifying the photograph to eliminate any distortion caused by, and in consequence of the photographic direction deviating from the vertical; and also to match the scale of the aerial-photograph, within certain limits, to the scale of the map. Finish

Hard-bodied wooden case with the exterior painted in grey. The front of the case has two black metal latches. The backside of the case has two black metal hinges as well as a chip due to wear and tear. The proper left side and the proper right side of the exterior of the case have a black metal handle. The interior of the case is divided into two levels. The top level carries and stores the photocarrier with the scale as well as the base and are supported into wooden mounts. Some of the wooden mounts have layers of felt to protect the components when in storage. The upper level of the case is connected to the case lid with a single beige fabric cord. The upper level of the case pivotes out of the way to expose the bottom portion of the case which holds the prism, the lamp, the spare light bulb in box, as well as the smaller wooden case containing the supplementary lenses. Étui rigide en bois avec un extérieur peinturé en gris. Le devant de l'étui a deux loquets noirs en métal. Le derrière de l'étui a deux charnières noires en métal et connaît un peu de dommage en raison d'usure normale. Le côté gauche et le côté droit de l'extérieur de l'étui ont une poignée en métal noire. L'intérieur de l'étui est divisé en deux niveaux. Le niveau du haut entrepose le porteur de photographie avec l'échelle ainsi que la base et est supporté par des montures de bois. Certaines des montures de bois ont des couches de feutre pour protéger les composantes lorsqu'en entreposage. Le niveau du haut de l'étui est attaché au couvercle de l'étui avec une corde en matériel beige. Le niveau du haut de l'étui pivote pour exposé la portion du bas qui comprend le prisme, la lampe, l'ampoule de rechange dans sa boîte ainsi qu'un boîtier de bois qui contient des objectifs supplémentaires.
