The donor was a dairy products tester in Montreal and Toronto from about 1952 until 1955 to measure fat, salt and moisture content. He would travel from retail stores to processing firms. His territory was from Yonge Street in Toronto to Port Credit. He studied at Kemptville College in Dairy in 1944. After 1955, he worked in the dairy research field most of his life at Agriculture Canada, working with Dr. Doug Emmons first at the Dairy Technology Group, then at the Dairy Technology Research Institute followed by the Food Research Institute and Food Research Center. He co-authored with Dr. Emmons several research articles during his career. John D. Duncan was located at 64 Drummond street in Montreal at the time this bottle was in use. The dairy seems to have change address at least 3 times during its operation, one being at 66 Drummond, 640 Dorchester and at 218 Mountain street. The dairy was in operation from 1901 until 1920. It was then acquired by the dairy The Guaranteed Pure Milk. From 1901 until about 1910, the dairy was advertised as a licensee of the Walker-Gordon Laboratory Co. From 1901 until about 1910, the dairy was advertised as a licensee of the Walker-Gordon Laboratory Co. In the context of milk contamination and adulteration happening in Montreal at the beginning of the 20th century, we understand why J. D. Duncan dairy promoted being a licensee of this modified milk so that he could more easily sale his milk. The milk was also bottled and capped with a cap that could not be retrieved to adulterate the milk before sale. De 1901 à 1910 environ, la laiterie est annoncée comme licenciée de la Walker-Gordon Laboratory Co. Dans le contexte de la contamination et de l'adultération du lait à Montréal au début du 20e siècle, on comprend pourquoi la laiterie J. D. Duncan a fait la promotion de son statut de détenteur de licence pour ce lait modifié afin de pouvoir vendre plus facilement son lait. Le lait était également embouteillé et coiffé d'un bouchon qui ne pouvait être récupéré afin d'adultérer le lait avant sa vente.
