This postcard collection donated to the corporation originally belonged to the father of the donor. Fascinated by aviation, he studied to become an aircraft mechanic. After spending some time doing this, he worked as an engineer seemingly involved in the development of air condition equipment. This postcard collection includes twenty-eight late 1930s / early 1940s photo postcards, including 26 black and white ones. Half or so of the postcards were glued in an album at some point. Only one of the cards carries some text, handwritten in pencil, in German. The postcards were produced by several publishers, like DTV and Horn. 21 of the 28 cards show German military aircraft, most of them well known. The 28 postcards donated to the corporation represent a fraction of the total number of aeronautical photo postcards produced in National Socialist Germany during the late 1930s and early 1940s. - Function
-
To transmit brief messages by mail. In this case, the post card is used as a collectible item and a souvenir. - Technical
-
The postcard itself does not have much technical significance. However, its importance lies in the fact that the postcard is a special souvenir that links aircrafts from the second world war and its utility of transmitting messages by mail. - Area Notes
