In North and South America, Indigenous farmers domesticated many plant species and traded seeds, the most famous perhaps being corn, squash, and beans. Seeds and plants also became trade items in a growing international business. Seed and plant sales were typically advertised through newspapers, but catalogues became the favoured mode of marketing in the nineteenth century for customers in Canada and across North America. Kenneth McDonald and Sons Limited was a Canadian business that was located in Ottawa and existed between 1876 and 1966. Founded by Kenneth McDonald, the company evolved into a seed and horticultural specialist, offering a wide range of plants and garden products available through retail outlets and seasonal mail-order catalogues. A beige paper envelope that is rectangular in shape that also has a green border. It has handwriting on its front and back in blue ink. The bottom of the envelope has beige lettering inside the green banner. The back of the envelope has a flap on both its top and bottom to help seal the envelope from both ends. On the bottom of the envelope is green lettering. Inside the packet is a collection of seeds. Une enveloppe beige en forme rectangulaire qui a un bandeau vert. De l'écriture à la main en encre bleue est visible sur le devant et à l'arrière de l'enveloppe. Du lettrage beige est visible à l'intérieur du bandeau vert sur le devant de l'enveloppe aussi. Le dos de ce sachet de semences a aussi deux langues en papier pour sceller les extrémités du sachet. À l'intérieur du sachet de semences il y a une collection de semences.
