The corset is made of woven linen with a set of hooks and cord lacings, as well as various straps. The brace is of fine leather, stitched to cover a very firm metal (but not attracting a magnet) plate, curved to the lower back. There's no label. There is a number (2157 on one part and 215702 on another). - Function
-
A moulded, rigid part of a torso support used to support the wearer's back. - Technical

According to the donor: “The corset belonged to my Dad, whose back problems (according to my brother) went back to his rugby playing days in Australia. (My brother has a memory of him saying that was why Dad had to stop playing (at a fairly competitive level), although he wasn't sure if that was prewar or post war. My brother is guessing prewar, when Dad was in his 30s. Post war Dad would have been in his mid-40s and that would connect to his mentioning back problems in India (where he served in the Indian Army).” - Area Notes
