THIS COLLECTION CONSISTS OF OVER 7500 ARTIFACTS, AND IS THOUGHT TO BE THE LARGEST & MOSTCOMPREHENSIVE IN CANADA. IT WAS DONATED IN ITS ENTIRETY TO THE NATIONAL MUSEUM OF SCIENCE & TECHNOLOGY IN 1992. - Function

THE FIRST ATTACHMENT PLUGS WERE DEVELOPED C. 1900 IN RESPONSE TO GROWING CONSUMER DEMANDS FOR DOMESTIC ELECTRICAL APPLIANCES AND PORTABLE LAMPS. THIS DEMAND WAS ENCOURAGED BY ELECTRICAL APPLIANCE MFRS, AND BY SUPPLIERS OF ELECTRICITY. THIS STYLE OF PLUG PERMITTED AN APPLIANCE TO BE ATTACHED OR DISCONNECTED WITHOUT TWISTING THE FRAGILE WIRES ENCLOSED IN THE ELECTRICAL CORD. - Area Notes
