Function: USED TO TRANSMIT AND RECEIVE TELEPHONE SIGNALS FOR VOICE COMMUNICATION.
Technical: REPRESENTS A DESIGN OF TELEPHONE THAT WAS A CONTEMPORARY OF THE 300TYPE SET AND WAS DEVELOPED AND EXTENSIVELY USED IN CANADA. UNIPHONE WAS WELL CONSTRUCTED AND EASILY MAINTAINED, THOUGH THE BAKELITE CASE COULD BE BROKEN (AND WAS) BY USERS WHO SLAMMED DOWN THE HANDSET. UNIPHONES IN GENERAL USE WELL INTO 1970S. (REF. 2)

Markings: "Northern Electric/ COMPANY LIMITED/ PATENTED 1922 1923 RD 1935/ F1/ MADE IN CANADA" cast in raised print on underside of handset. "Northern Electric/ MADE IN CANADA" cast in raised print on phone body casing back. "42" marked on green dymo tape label fixed to casing back. "LOC 29" marked on blue dymo tape label fixed to dial. Dial faceplate marked 1 through 0, A through P, and R through Y, and "OPERATOR". "NO. 1" stamped in black ink on underside of phone body base.
Missing: APPEARS COMPLETE.
Finish: SMOOTH BLACK MOULDED CASING AND HANDSET, AND DIAL. WHITE DIAL FACE HAS RED AND BLACK MARKINGS. GREEN, YELLOW AND RED COVERINGS ON SPLIT CONNECTION CORDS.
