IN 1920S BATTERIES WERE NOT SHIPPED FILLED WITH ACID BUT WERE BUILT BY SMALL SHOPS ASNEEDED FOR LOCAL TRADE USING STANDARD PARTS. STANDARD SIZED WOODEN BATTERY BOXES WERE AVAILABLE FROM JOBBERS FOR CARRYING SOMEWHAT FRAGILE & HAZARDOUS ACID-FILLED BATTERIES. WIRE HANDLES SUCH AS THIS WERE USED WITH THESE BOXES (REF. 1). - Area Notes
