Function: USED FOR EXPLORING THE BLADDER IN ORDER TO DETECT THE PRESENCE OF FOREIGN BODIES, ESPECIALLY STONES.
Technical: LITHOTOMY IS THE REMOVAL OF STONES FROM THE BLADDER. SOUNDS ARE USED TO LOCATE THE STONE, PRIOR TO IT'S REMOVAL DURING SURGERY. SOUNDS ARE AVAILABLE IN A VARIETY OF PATTERNS AND SIZES: THIS SET IS LIKELY OF VAN BUREN'S PATTERN, AND CONTAINS SOUNDS NO. 14 TO 34 FRENCH SCALE.
