Technical: Alcock's chloroform inhaler was 1st accurately calibrated plenum vaporizer with a water jacket and the ability to compensate for changes of temperature. It was superior to its contemporary, the Harcourt inhaler. Air was supplied to the device by means of a foot bellows: a pump, fan, etc. Could also be used. (ref. 3)
