"Central control complex" is one functional module of DMS-100 switch[ing system], designed and made in Canada. When Northern Telecom announced its DMS product line in 1976, it was the first telecommunication equipment manufacturer in the world to offer a complete line of digital telephone switches. As a product it has been extremely successful for Nortel and ongoing sales and service contracts provide a significant, and stable, portion of Nortel's revenue. (ref. 1)
Function
Manages the entire system, specifically the DMS-100 digital telephone switching system, by routing the messaging control information to the appropriate network elements.
Technical
This unit contains the central processor unit (CPU), memory, disk and tape drives that together manage the entire system (the operating system is stored on the disk drive). Like the network, the central control complex is fully redundant, with two CPU's, two memories, and two tape and disk drives. Input to and from this module is via video display units, a printer, and the disk and tape drives. (ref. 1)
