"Inside this can is a rubber-capped/ bottle containing:/ NORMAL HUMAN SERUM/ (POOLED AND DRIED)/ Volume of serum before drying, 400 cc./ LOT 591305/ ISSUED JUL 13 1945/ To reconstitute to normal volume add 400 cc. of/ sterile pyrogen-free distilled water. Markings on bottle/ indicate approximate volumes./ Dried serum should not be reconstituted until/ immediately prior to the administration of the serum./ In no circumstances should dried serum to which water/ has been added be stored for future use./ Prepared by/ CONNAUGHT LABORATORIES/ UNIVERSITY OF TORONTO/ TORONTO, CANADA/ for/ H.M. GOVERNMENT/ DOMINION OF CANADA/ from blood/ obtained from voluntary donors by/ THE CANADIAN RED CROSS SOCIETY", "... TOP END" and upwards pointing hand symbol, and "OPEN CAN AT TOP END" and upwards pointing hand symbol printed on label taped to can. "ARCHIVES !!" printed by hand in black marker on cannister, above label. UHN catalogue no. "989.6 b" printed by hand in black ink on cannister.
