Originally owned and used by Dr. Yankoff in his Leaside (east-end Toronto) practice, particularly when treating non-English speaking patients. Dr. Yankoff graduated from University of Toronto in 1953, and practiced in Toronto. He died in 1980.

Technical

Anatomical models were popular teaching and demonstration tools, and used in both teaching facilities and practitioner's offices. This model is fairly elaborate, and was originally accompanied by an "atlas" or "key-guide" (now missing) which identified the hundreds of labelled structures.

Metal plate on base reads " [Adams logo]/ TRADE MARK/ CLAY- ADAMS/ CO./ INC./ 141 E. 25TH ST. NEW YORK 10/ MODELS, CHARTS, SKELETONS/ SURGICAL AND LABORATORY INSTRUMENTS/ MADE IN JAPAN". Silver decal, above, reads "THE/ J.F. HARTZ/ COMPANY/ LIMITED/ TORONTO/ MONTREAL- HALIFAX- HAMILTON/ VANCOUVER". Small decals applied to various areas of model/model components have various shapes, colours, letters and numbers. UHN catalogue no. "980.26.2a" printed by hand in white ink on base. UHN catalogue no. "980.26.2b" printed by hand on rolling stand [now 2002.0539 pt].

Missing

One small component missing (unidentified) from end of large colon. Several small hooks/eye missing from various internal components. Small areas of paint/finish loss throughout model.

Finish

Papier-mache on wood; metal eye & hook closures; mounted on oval 2-part dark wood base having silver metal axis and rubber-covered castors. Model interior and exterior, including all components are painted; varnished finish. Metal plate & decal applied to base. Black numbered/lettered buff-colour, yellow and pale green stickers/decals on model codify various details. Synthetic eye.
