COMBINATION OF WELSBACH MANTLE (COTTON SOAKED IN THORIUM & CERIA) WITH BUNSEN BURNER PRODUCED SUCCESSFUL GAS LAMP WHICH COMPETED WITH NEW ELECTRIC LAMP. GAS LIGHTING, USING COAL GAS, WAS FIRST USED IN CANADIAN CITIES TO LIGHT STREETS, IN TORONTO IN 1848. - Area Notes
