Canada: Part of a large collection of medical artifacts, archival material & trade literature transferred to CSTM in 2002 from the former History of Medicine Museum, Toronto, On.
Function: To store and protect the components of an anaesthesia machine.
Technical: Alcock's chloroform inhaler was 1st accurately calibrated plenum vaporizer with a water jacket and the ability to compensate for changes of temperature. It was superior to its contemporary, the Harcourt inhaler. Air was supplied to the device by means of a foot bellows: a pump, fan, etc. Could also be used. (ref. 3)
