Cette reliure à trois anneaux en bois appartenait au père du donateur. Ce dernier a envoyé l’information suivante : - “Roy E Mills with 25 years in the RCAF started as a navigator/bombardier in WW2, retired as Air Command Security Officer in 1967. He passed away in Sept 2012 at 92.” - “I do not know where or how my father got it, but it is a rather very personal & special souvenir of his WW2 experience.” Cette reliure à anneaux pourrait être un objet unique. Il pourrait par ailleurs avoir été fabriqué en (petite?) série. This wooden three ring binder belonged to the donors father. The donor provided the following information regarding his father and the binder: " Roy E Mills with 25 years in the RCAF started as a navigator/bombardier in WW2, retired as Air Command Security Officer in 1967. He passed away in Sept 2012 at 92.” - “I do not know where or how my father got it, but it is a rather very personal & special souvenir of his WW2 experience." This specific binder could be a unique object. However, these binders could have been manufactured in a small quantity.

Cette reliure à trois anneaux en bois servait à garder en ordre des coupures de journaux consacrées à l’Aviation royale du Canada. This wooden three ring binder was used to sort newspaper clippings related to the Royal Canadian Air Force.

Technical

Cette reliure à trois anneaux en bois n’a pas d’importance technologique en tant que telle. Son importance tient au fait qu’elle servait à garder en ordre des coupures de journaux consacrées (principalement ?) à l’Aviation royale du Canada. L’avion dessiné / peint (?) sur la reliure est un Vought F4U Corsair, un avion de chasse conçu pour opérer à partir des porte-avions de l’U.S. Navy. Cet avion porte toutefois des cocardes (roundels) britanniques. L’apparence générale de l’avion dessiné / peint (?) sur la reliure laisse à penser qu’il s’agit du prototype du Corsair, le XF4U, qui vole pour la première fois le 29 mai 1940. Quelques photos de cet avion font leur apparition dans les magazines vers 1940-41. The binder in and of it self does not hold any technological significance. Its importance stems from the fact that it was used to keep and store newspaper clippings dedicated to the Royal Canadian Air Force. The airplane drawn/painted on the cover of the binder is a Vought F4U Corsair, an airplane built to operate on the airplane carriers of the U.S Navy. The general appearance of the airplane on the cover relates to the prototype of the Corsair, the XF4U, which would fly for the first time on May 29th 1940. Few photographs of this airplane would appear in magazines around 1940 and 1941.

Finish

Brown wooden binder with four small metal finishing screws for the hinges, two at the top and two at the bottom. The cover of the binder has a long and thin crack running through the wood on the inside. On the inside of the hinge, there is residual paper material, presumably from newspaper clippings. The hinge has two small identitical holes. The inside of the cover of the binder also has small lead pencil streaks. The interior of the back of the binder has white paint residue spots. The illustration of airplane Vought F4U Corsair either drawn or painted. The back of the binder has a noticeable crack in the wood from the top to the bottom of the binder. There are other thin cracks on the back of the binder. Normal wear and tear on the perimeter of the binder due to handling and age. Cartable brun en bois avec quatre petites vises sur la charnière, deux au-dessus et deux dessous. La couverture du cartable a une longue craque à travers le bois à l'intérieur. À l'intérieur de la charnière, on y retrouve des résidus de matériel de papier, venant probablement des coupures de journaux. La charnière à deux petits trous identiques. L'intérieur de la couverture du cartable à des petites lignes de crayon de plomb. L'intérieur du derrière du cartable à des marques résidus de peinture blanche. L'illustration de l'avion Vought F4U Corsair a été peint ou dessiné. Le derrière du cartable a une craque dans le bois qui mène du bas au haut du cartable. On y retrouve aussi autre craques mince au derrière du cartable. Finalement, on y retrouve de l'usure normale sur le perimètre du cartable gràce à son âge et la manutention.
