The Inspire 1 Pro was the first drone at CTV Edmonton to be used live on air in 2016 as an upgrade to the Phantom 2. It captured a live weather shot over the west end of Edmonton. Cam (the drone’s operator) believes this footage is also one of the first live drone shots ever used in Canada, and possibly North America. The success of CTV Edmonton in using this footage would eventually culminate in the purchase of a fleet of drones (starting in 2019 with the Mavic 2 Pro) and the training of two additional drone pilots between 2019 and 2022 to bring their total to three licensed drone pilots for the news station. Function

The controller used to operate the flight of the Inspire 1 Pro drone used by CTV Edmonton. It functions by emitting a radio signal from the controller with the help of a radio transmitter inside the controller. The drone interprets the signal sent by the controller and then mimics its commands. The remote control can also accommodate an LCD screen so the pilot can watch the drone’s movements in real time. Ce contrôleur peut accommoder un écran LCD pour que le pilot puisse regarder les mouvements du drone en direct et faire l'ajustement nécessaire à sa position dans l'espace.

Technical

The Inspire 1 Pro came equipped with its own high-quality camera (previous models, like the Phantom 2, required the purchase of a GoPro). The Inspire 1 Pro camera captured stabilized 4K video and also permitted the use of exchangeable lenses. It also had the option of an additional hand controller, which meant that two camera operators could control the drone at once: a “pilot” controlling flight and a “camera operator” controlling video. This made the use of other features, like zoom, much easier to effectively control. The Inspire 1 Pro had more stable video connection with the ground hand controller, as well as permitted use of the drone over further distances. Most significantly, it could accommodate live video transmission. This made it an ideal candidate for news broadcasting and an obvious upgrade from the Phantom 2. L'Inspire 1 Pro caméra pouvait capturer des vidéos stabiliser en 4K et avait l'option des lentilles échangeables. Il avait aussi l'option d'une télécommande additionnelle pour que deux pilotes puissent contrôler le drone en même temps : un opérateur contrôlait le vol du drone pendant que l'autre pouvait manipuler la caméra et ajuster le focale variable ou le zoom. Ceci faisait en sorte que le drone était énormément plus facile à contrôler avec les tâches divisées. Le drone possédait aussi une connexion avec le sol et la télécommande supérieure aux anciens modèles et pouvait être utilisé pendant de plus longues distances de l'opérateur. Finish

A silver synthetic controller with two white synthetic antennas on its back. A grey metal mounting bracket with is attached to its front in between two metal joysticks. Two silver synthetic buttons sit below the joystick. Under the controller is a metal foot stand that lifts the back end of the controller off the ground. A manufacturing label is also written in silver writing below the remote control. Un contrôleur en argent fait avec du matériel synthétique qui a deux antennes blanches en matériel synthétique aussi qui ressort de son dos. Un support de fixation gris en métal ressort de son dos et voyage entre deux contrôleurs de levier de commande en métal. Deux boutons synthétiques de couleur argent sont en bas des leviers de commande. Sous le contrôleur il y a un pied en métal qui lève le dos du contrôleur du sol. Une étiquette du fabricateur est visible en lettrage argent sous l’objet.
