As a Mitel product manager in 1982, the donor used this workstation both at the office and at home. The ‘Kontact’ is a Canadian innovation conceived by the Mitel Corporation in the early 1980’s. Recognizing the need to make management workstations more effective, the Kontact was the first PC to integrate two-line telephony features with a data terminal. Aimed at a white-collar business market, the Kontact’s selling point was that it combined most cluttering office tools into one sleek workstation; the idea being that the speed and efficiency of communications would increase thus facilitating the management of a busines. Le gérant des produits à la compagnie Mitel a utilisé ce bureau de travail en 1982 à la maison et au travail. Le ‘Kontact' est une invention canadienne qui a été conçue par Mitel Corporation au début des années 1980s. Le ‘Kontact' étais le premier PC pour intégrer deux lignes de téléphone avec un terminal des données. L'argument de vente pour l'objet était qu'il combinait plusieurs outils de travail pour maximiser la vitesse et efficacité de communication et ainsi faciliter la gestion d'une entreprise.

Technical

The first Kontact workstations ran on a 6809 processor and had 3270 emulation as well as VT220 emulation. Kontact’s were sold with the following standard applications; an Agenda (calendar), DataComm (ASCII TTY), a calculator, phone (two lines), electronic mail (point-to-point emailing), and maintenance utilities. A variety of optional, or custom, programs were also obtainable. Additional software packages included the ‘ExecuWrite’ program (word processing), the ExecuCalc (electronic spreadsheet) program, as well as 3278 and VT-100 emulation (when combined, the VT-100 and the 3278 emulation packages were called KT-Comm). All applications could be easily selected and accessed by pressing corresponding ‘soft keys’ (much like the ‘F’ keys found on today’s standard keyboards); ‘Soft keys’ were used before the advent of program icons. Des programmes optionnels ou sur mesure comme ‘ExecuWrite' (pour le traitement de texte) ou ExecuCalc (pour un tableur électronique) ainsi que des émulations simples (VT-100 et 3728) ou combiner ensemble pour faire KT-Comm pouvait être rajouté aussi. Les applications pouvaient être accédées en utilisation les touches de fonctions programmables.

Finish

The object is a rectangular synthetic beige box platform that holds a phone on its proper right side. The phone slides in a holder and is attached by a curled synthetic cable that is possibly rubber. On the proper left side is a port to plug other devices. On the platform in its middle sits a beige and grey synthetic TV box with a glass screen. The back of the device has a power outlet plug and a switch on its proper right side. Various other plug sockets for connections and a makers plate as well as 2 other stickers occupy the back of the artifact. L'objet est rectangulaire et fait avec du matériel synthétique de couleur beige. Il ressemble à une plateforme ou boite qui a un téléphone intégré sur son bon côté droit. Le téléphone est attaché avec un câble synthétique qui est possiblement faite en caoutchouc. Sur le bon côté gauche il y a un port pour des connections avec d'autres figures. Sur la plateforme au milieu une télévision beige et grise et faite en matériel synthétique et a un écran en verre. Le dos de l'artefact a une fiche pour une prise de courant ainsi qu'un switch sur son bon côté droit. D'autres fiches pour des connections et une plaque du fabricateur ainsi que deux autocollants occupe le dos de l'objet.
