Period
Used in the Geophysics and Geology programs at the University of Saskatchewan.
Canada
This device is an example of a Canadian-made gradiometer originally purchased and first used by the University of Saskatchewan, Dept. of Geophysics and Geology, where the device may have likely been used by students, both undergraduates and graduates as part of related research projects and studies. It was acquired by the Saskatchewan Archaeological Society for archaeological field work, however due to its’ complexity, saw limited use.
Function
This battery set was used as a power supply for the gradiometer (2011.0262.001) and helped it to perform its functions.
Technical
Cesium magnetometers are typically used where a higher performance is needed. In archaeology and geophysics, where the sensor sweeps through an area and many accurate magnetic field measurements are often needed, the cesium magnetometer has advantages over the proton magnetometer – the faster measurement rate allows the sensor to be moved through the area more quickly for a given number of data points.

Missing
This battery set may be missing other parts/Ces batteries ont peut-être un échantillon manquante.
Finish
A set of three batteries that are white in colour. They have cylindrical bodies and black synthetic heads. They are attached at the head to one another with flat metal arms. Red and white lettering is visible on the body of the artifacts.
