This fibre optic amplifier was developed by Nortel Networks (formerly Northern Telecom) in Ottawa, Ontario. Nortel Networks was one of the most important manufacturers of telecommunications equipment in the world during the 1990s and early 2000s. Function
This transmitter converts an electric signal into a beam of light that can be transmitted and modulated through a fibre optic cable. Ce transmetteur peut convertir un signal électrique dans un faisceau lumineux qui peut être transmis et moduler au travers un câble à fibres optiques.
Technical
This device is a direct modulated laser that uses an electrical current to directly turn the laser on and off. When stimulated by an electric current, its 2.5 Gbps chip emits an intense beam of light that can be switched on/off 2.5 billion times per second. This light signal travels through an optical fibre to the receiver. The first reliable semiconductor lasers that could operate at room temperature were developed in 1970. Cet appareil est un laser à modulation directe qui utilise un courant électrique pour allumer et éteindre le laser. Quand il est simulé par un courant électrique la puce de 2.5 gigabits par seconde va émettre un faisceau lumineux qui peut être allumé où fermer 2.5 milliards fois par seconde. An artifact that has a blue, yellow and white synthetic cable terminal that is attached to a black synthetic cable. The cable is attached to a gold coloured metal box. Inside this housing box is a series of metal objects: An optical isolator, an impedance matching resistor, a cooler, a monitor detector, a laser and a chip. Glass lenses are possibly also inside the housing. The top of the housing is sealed with a glass pane. Two sides of the housing have seven metal bars that extend horizontally on either side that are gold in colour. Cet artefact a un connecteur de câble qui est fait avec un matériel synthétique de couleur bleue, jaune et blanc. Le connecteur est attaché à un câble synthétique noir. Le câble est attaché à un boîtier de couleur or qui est fait en métal. À l'intérieur du boîtier il y a une série d'objets fait en métal : un isolateur optique, une résistance à adaptation d'impédance, un refroidisseur, un détecteur de contrôle, un laser et une puce. Des lentilles en verre sont aussi possiblement dans le boîtier. Le dessus du boîtier est fermé avec une fenêtre en verre. Deux côtés du boîtier on sept tiges en métal de couleur or chaque qui sortent horizontalement.
