This telephone was made as one of the development stages of telecommunications giant Nortel’s Nortel One cellular telephone. This telephone grew out of the Orbitor project and was referred to internally as Europa. The Europa project was cancelled in the summer of 1998, after the phone had been launched and was ready to go to production. This cancellation was part of Nortel’s decision to focus on providing telecommunications networks. Ce téléphone a été construit par Nortel pendant la phase de développement durant le projet Nortel One téléphone cellulaire. Technical

This is one of 30 or 40 fully functioning preproduction Nortel One/Europa cellular telephones made by Nortel. Touchscreen cellular telephones that connected to the internet were not publicly available until Apple introduced the iPhone in 2007. The Europa was a cellular telephone with java enabled web browsing that could send and receive messages and emails. It had a touchscreen activated with a stylus. Finish

A rectangular artifact made of black synthetic material. A clear synthetic screen sits below an antenna on its proper left side. Below the screen are three columns of buttons with various white lettering and numbering on them as well as symbols. One button has a green phone symbol and one has a red phone symbol. The back of the artifact has a metal plate as well as a white sticker with black lettering containing both a bar code as well as manufacturing information. The proper right side of the phone has four grey synthetic buttons. The bottom of the phone has a plug hole that has both metal and synthetic components. Un objet en forme rectangulaire qui est faite avec du matériel synthétique de couleur noire. Un écran transparent est fait avec le même matériel en bas d'une antenne sur le bon côté gauche. En bas de l'écran il y a trois colonnes de boutons avec du lettrage ou des symboles blancs. Un bouton est de couleur rouge avec l’image d'un téléphone et une autre est pareille mais verte. Le dos de l'artefact a une plaque en métal avec un autocollant blanc qui a un lettrage noir qui décrit un code-barre ainsi que de l'information du manufacturier. Le bon côté droit du téléphone a quatre boutons de couleur grise qui son fait avec du matériel synthétique. Le dessous du téléphone a un trou pour une prise qui a des composantes en métal et synthétique.
